An important role for RMT is to survey members, listen to what's going on, and set a strategic and annual plan that ensures we can deliver things that attract and keep members engaged with Sweet Adelines New Zealand. So it will be no surprise that the strategic plan focuses on four key areas: learning, connecting, performing and competing. That's why most of us are members after all
There's a great graphic to represent these four areas and what they mean: advancing barbershop through learning opportunities; supporting our choruses to thrive; inspiring through performance; and providing competing opportunities at a sustainable annual convention
Do have a quick look through the annual plan: under the Learn pillar, you'll see that we have mapped out the next 18-24 months of educational opportunities, with goals to have each and every member participate at least once, encourage small and mid-sized choruses to participate, proactively use our in-house Faculty of expert educators; and develop opportunities to collaborate with Region 35, Australia
For the Connect pillar, we intend to connect within and beyond our organisation to strengthen our identity and ensure membership is sustainable: through using social media, regular news through Tuned In, the Addaline, and marketing and sponsorship opportunities. We want to involve members with a particular interest in diversity and inclusion. There is support for YSIH, and plans to connect with stakeholders in the singing sector
Performance is on our minds of course, because of Convention 2025. We want to actively share our members' performances of all types through our communications channels to spread the word. We would love members of the public to come more to our performances: it's a great way to get new members
Under the fourth, Compete pillar, we want members to support and help organise our conventions - it's a lot of work and conventions need to be kept sustainable and affordable: many hands make light work. We will cyclically review convention budgets to ensure sustainability. We want international judges to be excited about the opportunity to stay and deliver education classes on the Sunday after contest. And we're keen to host overseas quartets - we already have one coming to Convention all the way from Japan!
This isn't everything mentioned in the annual plan - have a read for yourself to see what's in the pipeline.
