Sweet Adelines New Zealand is part of a worldwide organisation of female singers who meet regularly to practice, socalise, perform and sing a cappella four-part harmony music, barbershop style. We currently have just under 700 members of all ages, all walks of life, and from throughout New Zealand.
Sweet Adelines New Zealand is a member of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit organisation of approximately 27,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. New Zealand is called 'Region 35'.
Our region is coordinated by a Management Team who is voted on by members in New Zealand and Sweet Adelines International. They are found in the link for Regional Management Team.
Choruses - There are 15 choruses throughout New Zealand. To find the chorus nearest you click here for our regional map.
Quartets - Most choruses have a number of members who form their own quartets in addition to singing with the chorus.
Education - In addition to sharing music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. We strive for musical excellence with member involvement at chorus, regional and international levels; through education, understanding and sharing of our love of barbershop, four part harmony. Our Regional Representatives are members from different parts of New Zealand who are able to assist choruses and quartets as required.
Competition - In the early autumn of every year, our choruses and quartets are able to participate in the Region 35 Convention, our annual competition. Conventions are a special time for choruses and quartets from throughout New Zealand, to come together to sing, compete and get constructive feedback from an international panel of judges. The winners of the region convention in both chorus and quartet categories, are then entitled to travel to the Sweet Adeline International Convention held in a selected United States city each year.
